The Helena May Library has the well-deserved reputation as being one of the finest English-language libraries in Hong Kong. It has the period atmosphere of a genuine old-fashioned library but with the addition of modern library software. It has a comfortable reading corner overlooking the garden.
The collection contains over 25,000 volumes of fiction and non-fiction. It has been developed over the past 60 years. The collection is computerised and the catalogue is available online. About 50 new books are added each month. There is also a children’s library.
The Library holds special events, such as literary festival related activities and "Author in the Library" evenings.
Second hand and withdrawn book sales are held periodically throughout the year. These are announced in The Helena May Quarterly Magazine and on this website.
The Children's Library has a wonderful collection of books for all ages and reading levels, and a quiet place to read. The collection ranges from picture books to titles for older teens. There is an extensive collection of interesting non-fiction books. New books are added every month.
The Library also holds special events for children, such as a Teddy Bears' Picnic and a Christmas Storytime and Carols with a visit from Father Christmas.
